Ganesha’s Arrival

The first day of Ganesh Chaturthi marks the arrival of Lord Ganesha into our homes and hearts. Devotees bring beautifully crafted idols of Ganesha into their homes or community pandals, often accompanied by musical processions and chanting of hymns. The installation of the idol is a momentous occasion, and it is believed that during this time, Lord Ganesha blesses the household with his presence.
Pranapratishtha

On the second day, a ritual called Pranapratishtha takes place. This involves the formal consecration of the Ganesha idol, where priests perform various sacred ceremonies to invoke the divine spirit into the idol. Devotees offer prayers and perform aarti, seeking Ganesha’s blessings for a successful and obstacle-free life.
Daily Puja and Modak Offering

The following three days are dedicated to daily puja (worship) of Lord Ganesha. Devotees wake up early, bathe, and perform elaborate rituals to seek his blessings. One of the most cherished aspects of these days is the preparation and offering of modaks, a sweet dumpling believed to be Ganesha’s favorite. Modaks are offered as prasadam (holy food) and distributed among family and friends.
The Breaking of Coconuts

On the sixth day, devotees break coconuts as an offering to Lord Ganesha. This symbolizes the breaking of the ego and surrendering oneself completely to the divine. It is a reminder of humility and devotion, two virtues that Lord Ganesha represents.
Ganesha in Literature and Art

Day seven is dedicated to the study and recitation of Ganesha literature, including hymns, stories, and poems. Artists often create intricate rangoli (artistic patterns on the ground) depicting Lord Ganesha, and devotees gather to appreciate the artistic expressions of devotion.
Ganesha’s Blessings
On the eighth day, devotees seek Lord Ganesha’s blessings for knowledge, wisdom, and success. They engage in meditation, prayer, and listen to discourses that focus on the importance of these virtues in life.
The Grand Farewell

The ninth day, also known as Ananta Chaturdashi, is the culmination of the festival. Devotees bid an emotional farewell to Lord Ganesha, thanking him for his presence and blessings. The immersion of the idol, known as Visarjan, takes place amidst colorful processions, music, and dance. It is a moment of both joy and sadness as the deity returns to his celestial abode, promising to return the next year.
